SSO is an educational venture promoted by Giridhar Eye Institute. SSO is a unit of Kerala Vision Research Foundation and is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) for conducting B.Sc. Optometry Course of four year duration. SSO commenced academic activities in October 2015.The college has excellent educational facilities, well trained and experienced faculty, well-equipped laboratory, clinical and optical exposures and vast collection of books in the field of optometry, ophthalmology and vision science. With latest development in eye care, excellent team of doctors & optometrists students in SSO shall attain both practical and theoretical knowledge. The standard education pattern and training help the students to achieve quality education in SSO.

The Kerala University of Health Sciences was established by Kerala University of Health Sciences Act 2010. Establishing and maintaining the highest standards in healthcare professional education and training, encouraging generation of knowledge through research and helping to evolve holistic policies and plans for a healthy Kerala are the main objectives of the University. The name University of Health Sciences thus symbolises an education philosophy to emphasis on the promotion and preservation of health, rather than the mere treatment of diseases.
The University has jurisdiction throughout the State, and it is empowered to affiliate health care educational institutions belonging to the entire spectrum of the art and science of healing. This naturally includes all the systems of Medicine (Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Modern Medicine, Sidha, Unani, Yoga and Naturopathy), Dental surgery, Nursing, Pharmacy, Paramedical courses and other allied subjects contributing to health care. Located at Thrissur, the University currently has over 261 colleges affiliated to it. Various schools of research and constituent colleges will be set up in due course.
